Get the OEM one from the dealer, it is a German brand SWF not readily available from the aftermarket.

The ECT sensor by SWF is readily available from online parts suppliers, e.g. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... wf-9186486. That's your go-to part but as suggested I would spec out the resistance.
OP, would you mind checking your VIN at the link I posted, and tell us if the car is Moronic 4.3 or 4.4?

You can't see that from vin#.
You can see only emissions from it.
But again....all 850 T5 cars up to s,v70 are Motronic 4.3 from factory.

I think the 8th digit maps to a code for both emissions and engine management version on each car.

Yes, the VIN indicates both emissions and engine management. You can see that in the link for VIN decoding I put earlier in this thread. It's on the previous page but here it is again: http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... n1996.html.
But aha if you look there carefully on that link it clearly shows that engine type 57 (the T5) was only Motronic 4.3 in 1996. So misha is probably correct, my mistake!

I wasn't aware of that.I knew about emissions but didn't about management...or i just had a wrong vin conversion table.
I know that i needed to find out about which management i have via Bosch numbers from ecu...from some Russian site...and with those numbers i found out which one i have.
That was a loooong time ago.
Today...when almost every 850 T5 is upgraded with Motronic 4.4 flashed ecu...you are never sure.

Btw, the 96 and 97 850 R with manual tranny (M59?) That we got i Europe had Motronic 4.4 from the factory, hence the 250 hp rating (in combination with the 16T) as ipppsed to 240 hp in the AT versions running M4.3. And the rare 850 AWD (built between April and Dezember 96 as far as I know) had ME 7 and the 2.4 l Turbo with only 193 hp (or was it M4.4? 2.4 l and 193 hp I am sure cuz I've seen them in classifieds occasionally, usually with shot dtivetrains). But then, you customers in Trumpistan might have never gotten the 850 AWD.

We were talking about T5 and T5R....not about R or AWD which are all LPT(light pressure turbo).Clemens wrote: 27 Jun 2018, 14:37 Btw, the 96 and 97 850 R with manual tranny (M59?) 850 R(not T5R) had Motronic 4.4 in '96 & '97 but ONLY with manual transmission.
Awd is LPT in opposite to a T5 and it also have Motronic 4.4
Me7 was introduced in '99.
