OK so it appears that the connector to the mass airflow sensor was previously glued closed because it may have snapped off at some point. Is it safe for me to clean the mass airflow sensor if I just go through the air filter box and not unplug it because there’s no way to unplug it

If it is in that bad of condition replace the MAF and the end of the wiring harness and be done with it.

Well I cleaned it while plugged in. I think the part that’s glued to it is actually attached to the car’s electrical system. Is there a way I can post a picture of it on here?

Seems to still be symptomatic. Will def replace pcv. What, exactly, do I need to order if I want to tackle this myself? Can’t anyone help me with this info?

I was going to suggest checking the plumbing at the turbo flanges, over time the constant heat kills the plumbing where the tubes mate to the turbo flange and even though it make look fine you actually have to remove that air duct to see behind the clamps. But your MAF sensor sounds problematic.

So it turns out, we needed to replace the turbo pipes going across the engine. They both had vacuum leaks. Also, replaced the PCV oil trap and some other vacuum lines, and cleaned the Throttle Control Module. Replaced the intercooler hose to the turbo pipe, too. Cleaned the MAF (then ended up replacing it & don't think it was even bad, so now a spare). Drives way better. However, still has a weird start sometimes. Maybe it's just normal? It mainly starts after the 2nd start, and this is mainly when it's been run for a while, not on 1st start up for the day. Would the start condition have ANYTHING to do with a "Service Alarm System Required" message that sometimes appears on start-up, then goes away? I'm going to double check the siren when I get home. Just also wondering if that has something to do with the start issue. Fuel pump was replaced in 2013.
