A few items: 1) CEL light will come on after proper cycle if problem is still there. That is why it comes back after 20 minutes. With this in mind can you check immediately for "pending" codes on your scanner? This may tell you if you have an immediate fault that is going to result in CEL light. How quick it turns on is a clue that a part is bad to start with. In the same vane, can you check your fuel trims - this will shed some light on whether you have an air leak. Smoke test is your friend.

2) Generic scanners are not always the best - sometimes they display wrong codes. Invest in VIDA or find a shop with a high end scanner that does all Volvo scans. This could provide more insight.

After that as mrbrian200 says - look closely at ETA

If that's idling in park your throttle plate is too far open. On the 2.5T engine it should be open around 6-8% @hot idle in park. '05 uses the Bosch style throttle bodies. Probably another case of the internal gear mechanism is worn out/shot.

I have a 94 850 turbo with the same issue. weird the code will come and go as its driven. it has all new fittings on the RIP kit and I replaced all the turbo and tcv hoses. I did find end of last year the oring and gasket on my TB was leaking when i did a smoke test on the intake system. car has been in storage but that part is the first to be replaced and I'll let ya know if I figure out the issue. replaced the maf and throws the p0101 code still so it most likely not the maf

I have a 2006 XC90 2.5t. Had to take it to volvo to read codes. First problem had to replace coils. Next started sputtering at lights. Multiple codes ECM 120d, 121d, 212d, 216d, 210d. I did their “recommend to start with” at my Euro mechanic, volvo was trying to double dip in on parts. list of replacing the oil trap and all the lines, oil spout gasket, dipstick gasket, smoke tested fine. still sputters 1 out of 50 times at light, then give it gas and it goes away. Engine system light goes on and off when it wants too. Off when weather is cold until engine warms up. Replaced MAF, smoke tested again. Don’t want to take it back to Volvo for another $185 diagnostic fee. Throwing P0101 code but can’t get it to mechanic or dealer while it is sputtering since it is only occasional and never at the shop. Help, want to sell or fix but not going to keep replacing things as a guessing game.

Hi, I'm Julio from Chile.
Did you get a solution to your p0101 error code and TB %?
I have exactly the same problem on a V40 T3 1.5 2020 V40.
