If you look at the pictures in the links of the first post, it is pretty clear what the difference in the mounts is. It's something you can easily identify by taking a quick look at the mount before you go to order.abscate wrote: 10 Jan 2019, 05:34 Is there value documenting the dimensions on my these engine mounts so we can measure our cars before we order or is the application and fitment are clear?

I see it in the new one, but I bet when the mount is collapsed it might be harder to figure out
On one the two bolt vertical tang is centered on the rubber mount, the other it is offset to the rear of the car as installed.

I'm doing the top torque mount on both my cars when the parts get here. I need to evaluate the mounts down by the pulley and then decide whether to order them. I suspect that they are bad, but will have to take a close look with the wheel off. If they ARE bad, I should have one of each style since my '98 is before the cutoff VIN and my '99 is after the cutoff VIN. I suspect that putting the VIN into a search at an OEM dealer website is the best way to check. FCP were not in doubt concerning which mount my '99 needed. I am a bit surprised that there is no aftermarket version available. I'd also be very curious to know exactly why there are two different mounts made by Volvo. I have a hard time believing that the engine block castings are different. My guess is that they decided that the mount would work better with a slightly different geometry and moved the mounting points on the subframe 3/8 inch to allow that.

Does it transition with the engine oil cooler transition from radiator to biscuit, maybe? Clearance for oil lines no longer needed ?

It has to do with the RN block and the attachment there...The mounting points on the subframe are unchanged.Eddystone wrote: 10 Jan 2019, 11:41 My guess is that they decided that the mount would work better with a slightly different geometry and moved the mounting points on the subframe 3/8 inch to allow that.
The '97 GLT uses the -698. When we put in an RN engine ('01) we needed to switch to the -189, like the '99-00 cars use. No other changes were needed for that mount.

?
'99 was the first year of the RN motor, which is indeed a different casting from the '98 and earlier N block.
The chassis number cut-off was when they started with the RN motors in the P80's, which was in the '99MY cars.
Trust me, I wasn't happy about having to buy a $100+ mount, when I had a good one from the old engine.

I need to be educated about what an RN motor is. I know the '99 has variable valve timing while the '98 does not.

Unless it’s a 99 NA which has no CVVT ...

Always another wrinkle.
My '98 is non-turbo, but my '99 is the T5.
