Did you also heat up the wheel bearing ?

i was only "trying" to heat up the hub and then squirting water inside the axle bolt hole. But after more failed attempts and knowing spare parts were around the corner, it was gloves off and i torched the whole darn thing. The grease boiled out of the bearing, the seals vaporized and the hub flange itself glowed like lava. The only damage to axle was from me holding it down with my shoe, i accidentally pulled boot of the the inner cv and the grease got out so i bought a new axle assembly as well.

Happens when the axle gets stuck in the hub... swapping the whole thing - hub, axle - with used parts is indeed the easiest way. Otherwise a large press or the torch will damage the bearing anyway. At least, in wasn't stuck inside the transmission (another fun job)
