Oil pressure saga continues

Post by Reming870 »

I have been around and around now. 60 psi cold pressure. Oil light on when hot. Pressure is at 0.

Pickup tubes and sensor have been replaced.

Currently running on 20w50. Problem still occurs but takes longer to surface. Lifters tick. Engine slight knock when light comes on.

Will worn rod bearings create this issue? Need to squeeze another 40k miles out of this car.

That does sound like worn bearings - we did have one poster who dropped the pan and found the oil bypass valve loose, but if you are hearing internal engine noises, it sounds like more like 4k of life left rather than 40k

I don't mind changing the rod bearings if it will resolve the issue. They are cheap and it looks fairly easy after the oil pan is off. Just need some opinions if people think it will resolve the pressure issue?

60 psi cold tells me the pump seems OK. New pick up O-rings and sensor. I see low oil pressure when hot.

IT could be either rod or main bearings. Once you open the pan, Plastigage clearance test will tell the tale.

I don't think the cold oil pressure is diagnostic - you are probably reading the relief valve setting only.
