FWIW : I used the 14486 U-Haul 4-Way Flat trailer adapter to wire up my XC70. I had to install a fuse in order to power that harness that I fed into , so I figured it was fused anyways. The kit comes with everything you need even the tool-free splices.

You could forget about the trailer adapter and just splice into the tail lights behind the carpet panel on the left. Just use an analog meter or 12v tester light like he does and just wire and fuse accordingly. It's not as complicated as Volvo would like to make you believe it is  of course they want to sell you a $200 plus 1 hour VIDA labour to software load it... typical stealership behaviour

OK thanks! I didn't want to tap into the tail light wiring. I just added an edit to my previous post too - I think you are right, one of these universal converters (U-haul, Curt, etc) will work fine on an 07 too.

II could not find a plug back there on my 07 XC70, so I tapped into wires as per this video https://www.etrailer.com/tv-install-tra ... 76kit.aspx using T connectors. Tomorrow I'll test the hookup.

The kit comes with everything you need even the tool-free splices.
If those are those vampire clip on splices they are tools of the AntiChrist. In any kind of weather climate, those will cause you pain and suffering

Works great, happy with the low cost and low install effort.

In case that video ever goes away, here is the instructions:

Driver side wires tapped into:
- green wire on car for left turn signal, to yellow wire on Curt unit
- yellow wire on car for brakes, to red wire on unit
- gray/white wire on car for tails i.e. running lights, to brown wire on unit
- also attached ground there (white from the unit), by sanding paint off frame in a small spot and drilling a hole
- power wire (black from the unit) is also over here using an inline fuse and running 14 gauge wire to the battery

Passenger side wires tapped into:
- green/white wire on car for right turn signal, to green wire on unit

EDIT: corrected right/left designation on turn signal wires

I much prefer crimp-on buttsplices (not sure what the technical term is for them), but the snap lock things they included in the kit worked fine. Seemed properly sized for the gauge of wire running to that harness. Like everything, time will tell

The wiring harness has 3 harnesses available (well were available) with a 4,7,13 pin socket on them. The standard is the 4 pin flat harness, but the main harness has connectors to add the 2 other options built into it.

Hope that helps.
