2004 V70, S60 GKN OUTER CV boot is now Plastic!

I was looking at 2004-2006 XC90 2.5T Outer CV Boot, from what I researched:
- It is still made from rubber.
- The dimensions for XC90 (right in the photo, dimensions are not certain, I got the dimensions from some websites...) are very close to the S60, V70 (left in the photo).
I personally think XC90 CV Rubber Boot should fit the S60/V70.

- Can someone call FCP to see if they can get one of each and physically measure them for us, and post their measurements?

An FCP employee checked the 30788256 and verified it is also plastic.

Well, for Volvo 31256231, the photos I see from the web showed plastic, maybe I am wrong.

Volvo bought the part from GKN.

I wonder if the Volvo employee in the parts dept knows the difference btw plastic vs rubber!

The whole kit (Inner and Outer) PNs are 31256221 and 31256231. Picture from dealer listing on ebay: one plastic and one rubber according to my eyes...

My guess FCP ran out of stock of the GKN rubber boots and are now distributing GKN plastic boots.

IPD listing says "Rubber" but the photo is c/w plastic to my eyes.

Best is to examine the item yourself.

I doubt if GKN makes plastic for afternarket and rubber for Volvo dealers.

Without using gloves I just felt my OEM outer boots and they are plastic! They softened over 12 years so not as hard as the new boots.

The Indie shop mechanic stated the outer boots have been plastic for over a decade. They use a hydraulic crimping tool on them. After I slide the outer boot over the re-greased CV joint I'll bring them to the shop and have them crimped for free.

Best is to jack it up, remove the wheel and touch the outer CV boot. My 2004 V70 has rubber boot for sure.

Wheels, brakes, and struts are already removed. I'll be sliding the axle out of the hub after lunch. After I remove the carrier bolt I'll use the Jimmy tool the Indie shop lent me to pop the axle from the AT.

The outer OEM boot is plastic and the inner OEM boot is rubber on my 2007 XC70 2.5T.

Plastic boots have outlived the rubber on all the vehicle brands I work on that use them. I have never seen a road debris damaged plastic boot but have replaced dowens of rubber ones with wire caught in them.
