well, it could indeed be that the speed dependant rack has fewer turns lock to lock compared to the standard rack, but twitchy handling is negated by the fact that the whole rack is replaced. I agree that twitchy behaviour could be an issue whenever you have a speed dependent rack which is continuously in 'high assist-low vehicle speed' operation.
What i'm wondering though, is wat the resistance is of the solenoid on the speed dependent rack itself. Plugging in a resistant load in the harness when swapping from a speed dependent to a standard rack might help against DTC's.
My car is currently at the shop and they cannot get a replacement speed dependent rack delivered in time for my holidays so i've asked them to temporarily put in a standard rack for the holidays and install the new speed dependent rack when i'm back. Which means i cannot measure the resistance on the solenoid (anyone?) at the moment. I however will report back on the experience of the temporary swap;).

So here I am, reporting back after 30k kilometers. The swap itself (from speed sensitive to normal) works fine, no strange steering or anything. I have kept the sensor from the speed sensitive rack connected to the wiring harness in a plastic bag so not even any DTC’s
However… the rack is leaking (pouring) again… same exact place (on the rack where the the hard lines connect. I’m convinced it’s not because of the rack itself, but because something else. I think, in my case, the lines self-destruct because of engine vibrations (D5 engine) the engine mounts are being replaced as well, which hopefully saves my rack from blowing up every half year. My garage, who are specialists on p80 and p2 Volvos are clueless as to why I have this recurrent problem, even with a brand spanking new rack, so if there’s any tips out there I’d be glad to hear about them.

new rack using old lines ...
a mechanic told me if he changes the rack he also changes the lines to prevent customer come backs.
