850 or V70

Post by Baker »

For What Its Worth

Sooner or later even well made cars fail. High mileage, poor driving and maintenance, sunlight, grit, road salt, etc. take there toll. Of course there can be design and manufacturing defects.

1. Have a close look at the maintenance records. Try to get some history.
2. Look at the recall and warranty repairs.
3. Has the car had a serious wreck?
4. Have a mechanic evaluate it.
5. How many owners has it had?

Good luck

Baker speaks the truth. Even the 850 door panels are known to fail....damn Volvo's environmentally friendly glue.

One more question then: lets say I decide to get one of the last 850's. Which engine should I prefer and which should I beware of - and why? Over where I live diesel fuel is more expensive than gasoline, so the way to go would be to buy a gasoline engine and put liquid gas (propan ) system into it.

Others from the U.K., Australia (in other words- the non-U.S. countries) have spoken of a propane or LP-Gas conversion. I don't know a thing about it. All of the late 850 engines are solid. You can't go wrong as long as the car was well maintained and the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system was regularly cleaned or replaced.
