I looked in my records and I purchased a gasket and filter from FCP for $87 back in 2015. Even if the fluid is $100, how is there over $350 in labor here? I am torn because I have been going to this independent mechanic for years and years and they do great work, but this pricing is killing me.

Anyway, sorry to go on so long. Has anyone had a tranny service done recently and what was the cost? I'm curious now.
According to FCP, eEuroparts & IPD my 03S80T6 & your 04XC90T6 have the same GM 4 speed transmission.

Unless the AWD system changes the trans setup considerably it's a pretty straight forward job. Changed the gasket, filter and installed a Transgo shift kit besides flushing the entire system using the transmission cooler line method. You can piece together videos on Youtube for all the work aforementioned. I may have those on a post somewhere.

The shifts are snappy without any jointing and passing is instantaneous. Scared myself and the guy next to me as I was about to miss the freeway split on the right and having just enough room WOT the lane change. Lighting quick. Didn't know the T6 and Transgo can make the car do that.
Thanks for this post. I did the service myself 5 years ago and recall it was messy but not hard.
I've rebuilt quite a few cars so my limiting factor now is time. I have several old cars to contend with that all seem to need attention.
Hadn't heard of the Transgo. Maybe I'll look into that.
Here is the Transgo Shift Kit GM 4T65E. Cheapest I believe anywhere.

Since you've remove the pan before and it's not difficult, you could consider the current drain and fill fluid from the shop as a cleaner. It is not as messy if you pump the pan fluid out first through the transmission line at the radiator.
.
Good info on the Shift Kit installation - I watched this before installing mine. Had it on ramps previously (no room) but I have the Quick Jack now so it should reduce the time considerably.

.
Clearer view. Don't need the Sonnex Kit. Just use a small S.S. Hose Clamp around the 2 pipes.

.
Did a flush for both the 03 S80 T6 and 03 Odyssey w/227K miles, using the hose method from the radiator. Around a year now for both cars. I bypass the radiator (pipe threads stripped on new radiator) on the Odyssey and installed a Transmission cooler and it's gone through the winter and summer here so the fluid is very good. Should work great in Silicone Valley. I have a cousin in Santa Clara and friend in San Jose so am familiar with the weather.

Installed in front of the AC. Did notice a slight less cooling but the at the cost of a transmission it's a small trade off. Have a infrared heat gun and the temp was always low coming out of the transmission. Soon to install on the S80 T6 but no Radiator Bypass.
