Front Cowl Drain Lines

When I have cleaned out nasty fuel lines with sticky debris, I had success using a thin steel braided wire cable with the end slightly unraveled. The cable is stiff enough to push in the tube and can be twisted to stir and thread into the clogged material. This could work for a drain line as well.

Remember now doing this on my parents 96 850 wagon. It is a swine to do due to that stupid idea of passing the zip tie through the pipe. Who ever thought that was a good idea? It is up there with dash board lights that light up at night even if your exterior lights are on, or the garage door openers in the car that stay live when the ignition is off?

For cleaning sunroof drain tubes I use a length of yard trimmer string. The thickest diameter is best. You can use it as a drain snake. It might help for this task as well. I also have found that reaching down and squeezing the drain tube helps break up the leaves and other stuff into smaller pieces so that they fall out the bottom.

I've use a coat hanger and compressed air to clean these. I have to clean then anually it seems.
