One last question on this topic. I bought a new damper/shock piece from FCP and attempted to install it.
So far no good from either the side panel or extending the damper and then trying to press it onto the pin.
The real problem I think I have is that both of those tabs that I assume keep the box itself from dropping way
down are broken. Am I screwed? I am not about to go looking for another inner liner to the glove box that
still has those tabs intact.

I ordered a new damper but my plastic stops broke also. Any suggestions on a work around for those?

I think those glovebox tabs play a big part, the dampner is NOT designed to hold the weight of the GB. I would attempt a repair using sheet metal (may not be strong enough) or wire/string OR its a trip to the junkyard or ebay
