Fumoto...yes or no?

Post by MadeInJapan »

Ah thanks, Tony....not bad for a soon to be 47 year old fart, huh? ...a high school principal to top that...ah, to be young again.

Now, back on topic. I've read a bunch about the Fumoto valve. My main concern would be for it to open up by accident somehow while going down the road. Doesn't it sit below the pan?

I will post a picture of it on my daughter's 850 once she gets in for college break. It has a locking notch that prevents the lever from being able to come open on its own. Until it gets broken in it is a royal pain to get it open. I use a pair of pliers to assist opening the valve during this time. Once it loosens up you can upen it with your hand. I have 130K on th one on the Volvo. The valve on my truck is approaching 300K (I took it off the previous car tha had 180K when I traded it). I have never had one leak or come open.

I see that on their website they suggest getting the adapter (so that the valve clears the recessed drain hole on all 5 cyl. Vovlos), but why do you recommend the nipple? I certainly don't want the oil to drain any slower than it does with just the valve installed.

And thanks for the welcome = )
