There's no reason to drive without a hood. Unless yours got ruined in a crash. 300 hp is not that much power to do something so drastic. S60r's make over 300hp on what is essentially the same engine.

You should check out volvospeed they're more power and performance oriented on that forum.

Basically the stock T4 turbo that the Volvo's run is the big limiter. Turbos are sized for a certain amount of performance. If you want to make power outside of the stock range you'll need a larger turbo.

What are your actual goals? I think that will get you some better responses. :-)

Blues and whites are the "interchangeable" ones. Greens are bigger than both (By about 20% flow rate).
yep, my bad.
310cc (orange) - 1995 T5R, 96-97 850R

350cc (white) - 98 T5 models

395cc (blue) - 99+ T5 models

465cc (green) - S60 R, 99-00 V70R

Thanks Chuck, I don't want to leave bad info here.
I just remember the info from the M4.4 Wiki page. If I recall the difference in the white/blue flow rates has to do with the operating fuel pressure. When they are used at the same pressure, the flow is the same/similar.

Yea, whites and blues flow exactly the same in the same car, e.g. 350 cc in a 98 C/V/S70 car. Blues came installed on cars with higher pressure FPR (99 and 00 T5), where they accordingly flow higher (395 cc). OK, what Chuck said.

Regarding driving without a hood - From what I have encountered in California and Arizona ( probably most western states ) you do not need to have a hood installed to use the car. You do however have to have functioning hood latches, if you do have a hood, to prevent it being blown open while your driving. There is no real safety issue driving without one, so they don't care. By comparison fenders are a whole other matter since driving without one is a safety issue due to rocks etc being thrown into other cars, so a fender has to cover at least 45* from the top of the tire down. Becomes an issue with the old open wheel roadsters and hot rods, many of which also do not have hoods.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

The reason abscate mentioned wisconsin is because im planning to go on a road trip in 2-3/2021 from oklahoma where i live to wisconsin. Coldest air might make my car even more fun; which would be the point of going hoodless.I have already posted on a few of my own threads that i will be running the 19t. What is the T4 turbo? i havent heard of that. unless your are referring to the b253t4 engine. the 2004 s60r auto runs at 300hp/258tq and manual runs at 300hp/295tq. I think on my planned setup, I could make almost 300hp.

T4 is the physical size class of the TD04 turbos. T3 was a Garrett AiResearch series, then they came out with T4s, and have kinda been a standard by which many turbos were measured cfm wise. It's a before your time thing.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
