Abscate - He says he used 19-20mm. I see you can get German Knipex crimpers at Home Depot of all places. I do see the argument that this is a permanent connection, not something you'll need to unclamp.

Do you find times when the pliers just don't fit in tight spaces, when you could get at a screw clamp with a flexible nut driver? I never use screwdrivers on clamps anymore. oh, wait...my question may be moot if you're assembling these hoses off the car.

erikv11 - The radiator fittings are dry, it's the rubber to metal union towards the bottom. Near the dipstick tube base.

My question about crankcase pressure is about the dipstick tube jetting vapor and whether I need to replace the PCV while I'm taking things apart.

Do the glove test to check for crankcase pressure. I also see some smoke from the dipstick tube, but that could also be water vapor boiling off from slow use. If it is really puffing like a choo choo train the glove test will probably tell you the bad news too,

Volvo has a spec for crankcase pressure, btw..

An item that might qualify for the blooper thread - I used the shop vac hose over the tailpipe to push the exhaust out the garage door, and melted the end.....

If it melted on you can just bend the snorkel around to eye height for an interesting effect sure to deter tailgaters..

19mm, perfect for those 3/4 pex fittings (might be a tight squeeze on)

You can crimp them with diagonal pliers for car fittings (but not for PEX water fittings!)

Yes assemble the hoses off the car. Sounds like you are on it.

Keep in mind the challenges of this job are the install at the oil cooler thermostat, and securing one line near the AC compressor. Complete PITA of a job overall, leads some to instead swap to the newer oil pan with biscuit cooler and be done with those lines forever. Because of the hassle, Robert Spinner is still running his 850R with no oil cooler at all, I believe.

I'm reading in several places it's not as easy as it looks. I think the compressor bolt needs to come out.

Are you dumping all that fresh oil you just put in, or only what was in the hoses?
