She needs more than a part to be replaced : time, sweat, more than tools. Couldn't you keep it aside 'till spring time ? During this time lapse, may be willyou have a britght idea about how to do.

Burt i understand the link between you and your car.

Each year, my wife reminds me that, for my birthday, the price of the candles costs me so much more than the price of the cake : So what ?

A T5 abscate, a T5...

Oh man, sorry to hear about your loss. Since the 99's are so rare, I would let it sit till you have time to fix it or do an engine swap. Im sure in time, you can find a T5 engine from a P80 or P2. I bought my S70 GLT with a blown engine. Swapped in a low mileage T5 from a 01 S60. Had to get the ECU tuned but since you already have a T5 ECU, you should be good to go.

There are lots of things that can drop a valve.

It could be as simple as a broken spring. In the case of a broken spring you might get away with just replacing the spring. Which can be done without pulling the head off if you have a air compressor and the seats are good. I suggest you at least pull the cam cover off and try to determine the root cause. A bore scope might give you some clues.

This got me right in the feels. Sorry to raise an already philosophical discussion to an even higher level, but I just had to remark that this is an outstanding life metaphor.

Actually I had a P80 go this way back in 2011 - broken spring. From years of forum-watch I'll note that it is a rare failure on P80 engines but sure, formally it could be that. I could see the broken spring with just a flashlight after pulling the cam cover, pics and story here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40633. I opted for swapping the head because I had a reworked one sitting there already.

Wow, what a bittersweet day. But she's like a family dog, or almost another child. The memories and stuff. Yes, really just a bunch of metal and glass etc... But YOU have infused her with a soul over all this time. As far as your avid documentation and the craft you have lavished on the car, and helped all of us with, if it were up to us (collectively) she would live on. I hope you get to work it that way, even if it means scrapping a couple of the other hangers on. 1 of how many T5,M56, 99s? As long as the combustion chamber and piston top aren't too damaged, it would be a Karma thing. But I know, it's not my driveway/schedule/plan/business!!! Hope the best for all, 'cuz I can't get to MVS NY to sweep her away!

Ok, I confess. I took the new T4 to the transfer station to dump the rest of the demo material

At 3000 rpm it drives well, shaky at low revs

Here she is at cottage and on I88 and my favourite photo opp at mile 68 southbound
