There is also a flush method on MVS which allows you to run trans oil out via one of the cooler hoses and filling via the dip-stick tube. I would also do what the guys recommend. Again, not aware of there being a filter but then I don't know everything! :D

If you decide to do the flush method, make sure you get new 'O' rings for the cooling pipe you remove. Also look carefully at the clam shell clamp when you remove it as it can only be fitted one way around. Fitting wrong way around leads to leaks and even the pipe possibly blowing off.

A drain and fill a couple of times and then a flush should make a big difference.

Good Luck!

Neil.

If it has the Aisin AW55-50SN it wont have a filter "that you can get at to replace" as it is buried in the bowels of the transmission case and is not meant for routine replacment. I would recommend a few drain and fills using one of the methods you find described on this forum. They work miracles. Best shot for a cheap fix.

P.S. $40 for the filter and $X,XXX to pull the transmission, break it apart, replace the filter and rebuild transmission and reinstall into the car.

+1 on the others on continuing the driveway fluid exchange. Somebody on the Forum can help clarify the fitler issue from VADIS, but it's way less work - not to mention way less mess - to do the fluid pump and dump.
My fist 850 started to misbehave, and I did a fluid exchange using a friends' Snap-On system. At some point I put a Park-Neutral switch on it too, but I no longer remember the sequence. Because beer.
