Door lock problem, 1998 Volvo S70

I have a similar issue with a 96 850. I had the door open with a dead battery and went to turn the key to lock the door. In my case, I can't lock or unlock the door from the outside, but I can lock or unlock it from the inside (the car has a dead battery, so I don't know if the keyless entry works) by pushing or pulling on the lock knob on the door. I have the door panel off, but I can't see the connection between the door lock and the lock/unlock mechanism
