2006 XC70 headlight polishing/removal?

How do you control the Overspray? Lots and lots of paper?

I find it quicker just to take the headlight out vs masking it off. No worries that way.

I'm In the process of selling the C70 to a person that has done detailing. He knows somebody that does body work and has re-chromed the reflectors on a his personal Audi. He going to ask him to do the C70. Waiting to see how that turns out.

I have used tape around the edges. Or not worried about it much.

Except for the 2009 Smart car, my vehicles all have an honest weathered look.

A few years back some guy in my home town entered a weathered car in a car show. He just did not expect anything. To his surprise he came home with first place. I think the reason is, a good running weathered car appeals to the survival instinct.

This is not unique to Volvo S60 but any car with plastic lens.

I just used this Sylvania product ($21 online) with great results on my 2006 Volvo S60 and 1998 BMW 528i
with great results.

In theory, all you need is the clear coat bottle bc sand paper (included in the kit) and the so-called conditioner (included in the kit) are not that unique.

- What is important is to sand it down to the finest sand paper.
- Then rinse with water and dry it.
- Then the clear coat goes on (watch the youtube video but basically similar to wood varnish).
The clear coat has the smell of varnish (polyurethane) that ppl use to varnish wood floor.
- One kit is enough for 4 cars!

I've done this a few times now, but I don't use the clearcoat anymore. Instead I buy Laminex UV protectant film, which lasts much much longer. The sanding process is quite time consuming, and I don't want to do it again every 2 - 3 years :wink:

Now I know the tricks, I can do this 15 min per side.
Every 2-3 yrs, just sand a bit, clean, dry, then apply the clear coat.

The last time I did this, the previous owner used the clearcoat, which didn't even last 2 years. The remnants of that were a bear to remove, the stuff gets rock hard and it was a thick layer. It took me an entire Saturday morning to sand a pair of headlights. Hoping to never have to do that again. How do you do this in 15 mins.?

This thingy is almost like a wood floor varnish.
Lightly sand, wash, clean, dry then new coat.
No need to make a science out of it for me.
