Recently had identical symptoms in 2004 XC70. Turned out to be bad battery. Didn't try jumping at first because cranking was strong. Nothing else worked and using a known good battery fixed it.
Now:
2004 XC70
Then:
1972 144
1988 240 Wagon
1998 V70 T5
