Looks like a good strap agreed. The handle isn't the greatest but still it should suffice.
The cars I've used the strap on are 07 XC70 and 06 S60R. I speculate your 04 XC70 is the same rear suspension setup as those, but I don't have any other useful suggestions, sorry.

Thanks for the clarification - I thought you were working on a 2003 model. The odd thing is I am not the only person online who said the ratchet strap method was, essentially, impossible on their car. Don't remember all the years/models involved. Initial construction or later part substitution/wear/rusting etc. must be responsible.
