These are a few photos from my first trip to Sweden in 1984. I had just purchased my first car, a white 76' Ford Taunus Turnier. Turnier stands for station wagon.
It was a worn out company car that needed a lot of work. And that's how my hobby got started. I had no money and had to fix everything myself or with the help of friends.
Anyway, we piled a bunch of guys into two cars and drove up to Gothenburg from our hometown of Stadthagen, Germany. We found a beautiful little campground right on the shore west of Gothenburg, I believe the town was called Lilleby. It's a rocky coast and there are dozens of islands everywhere. In those days I took all my photos with the Konica TC.

Same trip in downtown Gothenburg. Note how the back end doesn't even fit on the trailer.

That's awesome! What year and model is that? That wide body kit looks good, and I like the old pickup too.

The pickup looks to me to be early 1970's Chevrolet with narrow bed. The trailer looks like rusty trailers I see often in Oklahoma.

I don't really know what the Volvo is, presumably a 122S? Here is another photo of them when we saw them at an intersection earlier that day. Also there is a 140 right behind it.

It used to be a 122....

Funny that somebody got an old Chevy truck into Sweden in the 80s.

It's actually not unusual. I don't know how it is now, but in the eighties and nineties there were a lot of American classic cars in Sweden. People were crazy for them. Same in Germany, there were big meets with a thousand cars or more. I used to own a 59' Ford Galaxie and a 70' Ford LTD convertible when I was still living in Germany.

I took the photos of the 122 on a Saturday night on main street Gothenburg and it was fascinating. There were dozens of classic cars cruising up and down. We were just standing at the street corner admiring them all.

Here is a Pontiac Trans-Am photographed in Scotland in 2009. Note the custom Florida plate on the front. We always seem to want what is not available.
