Good luck with the manual swap. This thread has the complete parts list for manual swap. You'll basically need the entire donor car to be sure you get all of the parts, computers, etc. Might be easier to find a car already with a manual and fix it up.

Do get that suspension fixed. Mine rear wheels scraping the wells when I go over speed bumps with a heavy load in the trunk. This caused one of my tires to slightly unseat, causing a small leak. Required a $25 fix at the tire shop. Should not have happened if I just replaced the worn old suspension.

Robert is on the west coast at the moment, doing his annual vacation/working tour. I think he has already done three conversions so far, with a couple more on the schedule. I would hate to get into a stopwatch contest with him just trying to pull a manual out of a donor in a salvage yard. I think he can have the unit on the ground in twenty minutes.
As mentioned before, do your suspension first to make the car a better driver. If you're going to replace the front strut cartridge, spring compressors are available as either a rental or a free loaner form some parts stores, but keep in mind the springs once compressed are storing big energy; if one escapes, it can be way too exciting, and hazardous to your health.

HEY GUYS!! Its been a longgg time and I bring good and bad news, first of all, the v70 is no more:((. Hurricane Ian took her away from me, however I purchased a 1985 740 gle. It’s my personal time capsule😊. I have just one question though, it has the infamous red block (na) but i seem to be getting pretty bad mpg, about 140 miles on a full tank, no warning lights on dash, the gauge does not work but I use the trip odometer to make sure I don’t run out of gas, which unfortunately happened today. Just wondering if something is wrong or if I actually have to spend $50 every 140 miles.

That’s about 7 mpg? It should be 3x that, so a Stage 0 tuneup is due.

Hurricanes are not fun, but property can always be replaced, people can’t be.

Just think of your sexy NA as the parts chaser for your T5. Just like me, your Grandad

HELP!!!!! I bought the car in late May this year to replace my piece of crap mazda but turned into just another project, ive spent a lot of time looking into the issues the car has and how to fix them, things like the overdrive malfunctioning for example, everytime the car goes into overdrive it shakes back and forth until it decides to just completely shut off. Ive heard alot of amazing things about the redblock engines but i know very little about them. The car in question is white, only has 163000 miles which is very surprising to everyone ive talked to, is stock and in amazing condition except for a couple of interior panels, and of course the wiring harness. Long term goal for this car is to get it boosted one way or the other, however ik thats gonna take alot of work, but im willing to make the sacrifice. For now im just worrying about the overdrive as i just moved to miami and cant bring the car here until that is fixed even though its only an hour and fourty minute drive. I am already going to go ahead and buy a relay as well as a solenoid, but if neither of those fix the issue i was wondering what else i can do without having to drop the transmission or replace it. Also questioning if this would be part of the reason the car only gets 12 mpg. the car has an exhaust leak but theres no signs of the engine running rich other than the low gas mileage.

Is this an injected car or carb? I think the GLE is injected but been a long while! If it is a carb, and has a stromberg carb, they have a diaphragm on the carb piston which holes with age which makes it run rough, idle badly and rich. If it has the carb, it is fairly easy to swap the diaphragm. I think 3-4 screws to remove the dash pot and then you can lift the return spring and piston out.

If it is injected, it could be clogged fuel system or injectors.

Does the car have vacuum advance on the distributor? Again, remove the vacuum line from the manifold and suck on it and see if the points plate advances (remove the distributor cap to see).
