Hi everyone,
I am in the process of parting out my black 1998 V70 base model. I have purchased a 1996 850 base model, and I'm wondering how many motor components I would be able to salvage from the V70 for the 850. I know most of the interior components are unique to the two different models.
I was thinking all the fuel injection parts, the starter, intake, alternator, radiator and all associated overflow system components, along with all relays, air intake and ignition components would transfer back to the 850 since the 850 is post-95 and the V70 is pre-99. Is this a correct assumption? Build date on the V70 is May 1997; build date on 850 is September 1996. I'm also hoping I can salvage the PCV box from the V70 and use it on the 850 since it was only put in about a year ago, and I know this is going to be needed on the 850 asap. The 850 only has 73,000 original miles, but I'm still not sure the timing belt has ever been replaced. Its within mileage spec, but WAY outside of time spec so that needs to be addressed asap as well.
I have a set of P2 (2005) alloys on the V70 and I'm assuming those would go on the 850 as well.
The V70 is being scrapped due to blown steering rack and almost all other front suspension also needing replacement such as struts, tie rods ends, at least one control arm and several other things and where I live now I cannot do this work myself and with the mileage on the V70 pushing 270K, I don't think its wise to keep dumping the money into it. I bought it exactly 4 years ago, and its has been a good car so I'm sad to see it go. If anyone needs parts for a V70 let me know. I have two people already laying claim to a few components, but they are going to have to drive to the Pottsville, PA area to get them, as the car is on dead inspection and it really isn't safe to drive with all the play in the steering and the rattling its making.
Thanks!

Everything under the hood is the same, all suspension steering and brakes are the same, including every part you listed.
If the cars have different emissions, those parts will differ. Fuel supply pipe setup and FPR probably different. ECU is not likely swappable.

Thanks Erik, is there a way to determine the ECU compatibility by VIN? Would this be something I could refer to on a chart here at MVS (I seem to remember seeing one for red block ECUs) or could a dealer confirm? Thanks.

1996 850 should be M4.3, so that won't be compatible with the '98.

All 96 NA 850's with an air pump are M4.4, for the record. And that's maybe a lot of them, both the ones I have owned were M4.4.

Good to know! That will be the deciding factor, then.erikv11 wrote: ↑18 Jun 2019, 18:47 All 96 NA 850's with an air pump are M4.4, for the record. And that's maybe a lot of them, both the ones I have owned were M4.4.

Trying to give this a push as I’m not getting as much response as I thought...
Anyone looking for parts off of this 1998 black V70 base? Call me 215 eight seven sixx 73 dozen It’s at a place where we’re good to go to start picking it apart but I’d like to get this started sooner than later.
Grey leather interior with heated seats, decent shape, lots of good body panels, doors and glass. Some parts spoken for but let me k ow what you need, thanks.
