Yes, the throttle plate is clean. I have tomorrow open, so I'm going to try and clean the ETM. If I use a little gasket shellac can I reuse the gasket until I can order a new gasket?

Since spraying around all of the vacuum lines didn't make a difference, I'm going to unhook and cap them all at the intake manifold too. Would unhooking the MAP sensor located on the radiator support cause me problems? If so I'll just replace that hose with a new one and cap off the rest.

Is the throttle spring replaceable, or can the idle be manually adjusted to bring it up? I did notice, since unplugging the ETM and plugging it back in, that when I hit the gas pedal the rpms go up but they take a long time to come back down to idle. Then once at idle, like it was before, it drops down to under 400rpm and either jumps back up or dies on me. (I miss having a cable operated TB, but not as much as I do a carburator. Those are a lot easier to diagnose, and fix.)

Not having a reliable car that I can drive is making everything a lot harder on us both, and I need to get this one going ASAP or try and trade it for something else. My fiance had to cancel two of her surgeries because we can't get where we need and back with my car the way it is, and we couldn't find a car to borrow for either of those days. One of which got moved to January, since that was the earliest opening they have right now.

I don't want to just start throwing parts at it either, just to still have the same problems. I'm lost guys, and I don't know what to do. We're both disabled, and on a fixed income, so money is really tight.

I'm trying to get a well-known party to comment on these Vida ETM data. I don't want to get your hopes up, gnalan. Likewise I don't want you to pause plans you have to move forward. I want you to know I'm trying and following this thread though.

If you need any other graphs, or data, from VIDA let me know. I can either get them tonight or tomorrow and post them. Also any other questions or suggestions that might help you/me/us figure out what's going on with the car.

I'll post tomorrow what I found out after capping all of the vacuum lines off, and cleaning the ETM if it's needed, and let everyone know if it runs any better, worse, or if it stays the same.

If you remove the ETM for cleaning, pls post a few photos including Part Number.

If I can find it at my local Pick-N-Pull junk yard(s), I will remove and ship it to you for testing.
There is no warranty that it works but I will try my best.

Thank you. I'll post what I find tomorrow. I'm still hoping it's something I overlooked, and can fix tomorrow, but I won't know until I do some more testing.

I'm still curious what the whining sound is somewhere around the ETM. I know it's not the ETM because I pulled the fuse, and unplugged it, and the sound still seems to be in the same general area. Any ideas what it could be? Is it normal? I don't want to trace a problem that isn't a problem, or ignore it if it is a problem.

Use a Ear trumpet to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. In a pinch a Rubber hose or a Transmission funnel will do. You can also use a Ear trumpet to record the sound with clarity.

A Mechanics Stethoscope with a Ear trumpet attachment is a good investment. $17.50 on eBay.

I tried to post a video of the throttle plate at idle, but I can't get it to attach.

The popping sound I can hear, which sounds like someone bouncing a basketball, is the throttle plate moving from slightly opened, to almost closed, and popping back open. It's either pushing/pulling against the spring and causing my problems, or something else going on. I have watched the actual throttle value go to a negative number before, and then going high after that, when idling with a fixed desired value.

The ETM is clean on the inside, both the throttle plate and the inside of the throttle body, and I can manually move to throttle plate with the only tension I feel pulling back being the spring. Same with pushing the throttle plate in. No sticking at all. I haven't tried moving it manually with the engine running, only turned off. I don't know if I manually hold it open a little at idle if it'll do the same thing, or if it'll start running normally. Is it safe to do that, or will I mess something up? Today's about the only day I have where I can just focus on the car all day.

I did replace the vacuum line from the intake to the MAP sensor, and capped all of the other ports off on the intake, and it still does the same thing. I think I can say now that there's no vacuum leak causing my problem, since the rubber caps I used were nice and tight fitting.

Does anyone else have any ideas for me to check out? I'm pretty much out of my own ideas, and I'm not sure what to do next.

I didn't remove it, but I used my trusty mirror, and camera on my phone, to get the numbers off of the ETM.
