(Off topic - FDPP Exemption applies) Lucas CAV dpa diesel injection pump - low pressure

Post by rollin_home »

My Diesel engine won’t start and I think it’s because the injection pump isn’t developing sufficient pressure. The pump is a Lucas CAV DPA-type diesel injection pump.

I bought the re-seal kit, totally disassembled it , cleaned it (it was filthy), replaced all O-rings, washers gaskets etc and reassembled. It works as before but just not enough pressure. When I crack a high pressure line fitting to the injector , fuel seeps out but doesn’t “spit” out indicating high pressure.

I need to further diagnose the source of the issue before I send the pump off for an expensive repair or I attempt further to fix it .

Does anyone have experience fixing these diesel injection pumps?

I do not know anything about this injector pump, but any high pressure pump needs to have a clean inlet filter so it can suck fuel in easily. If you have any doubt about your fuel filters, change them.
A fuel pump will have wear if fuel is not clean. Over many miles or hours, the pump will wear and the close fits will open and high pressure can not be reached.
