If this style and charm doesn't jump off the screen and grab you by the lapels, you're not alive. We'll never get back to 1950s-1970s elegance. They set the bar.

Seriously, what other car has an abbreviated emblem and still gets the point across, so badass! Undeniably the coolest feature of any car of that era has to be this:

For BlackLab247's question on the car, it could possibly be one of 3, depending on how much the photo has faded for that 72-79 Opel Record D series:

1) Yellow 82286
2) Bright Yellow 82234
3) Jasmine Yellow 82276

I've taken the info from a 1976 GM Opel colour chart.

https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/p ... rence_opel

The linked page has lost info, but I clicked on the 1976 chart option.

As for that (in my opinion) ugly front coupe, possibly British based on the license plate which dates then as 1968-9, I have no idea. Looks like a lash up between a Reliant Scimitar and a TVR, or possibly Gilburn? Really no idea, and I don't recognize the name script on the rear of the white car.

You got it! It's an Opel Rekord Berlina. We moved overseas in '78 and I believe the car was a '76 or '77 model. The color was Glasurit Ochre.

Fairthorpe TX/GT-S , '67-'76ish. Built off the TR6 platform, various powerplants through the years, and some featured a unique cross-link independent rear suspension setup, fiberglass bodies, carefully timed to coincide with the fading fortunes of the low production sport GT car market in England.

Quirky looks like all Fairthorpes from the 50's on. Never realized they built cars this late. In many years of ready UK classic car magazines, these have never been covered. Thanks for finding and sharing!

Fairthorpe? Fairthorpe?? Have I been living in a cave over here and never even heard of a Fairthorpe?

So, apologies while I put my design hat on and take cheap shots at this. Were these fiberglass kit cars? Or like Lotus, import and assemble it yourself?

Good places for water to get in...

The side of the body is a bit high, so the proportions with the squished top were off, so they thought they'd try to make the body less bulky ....by putting a big flat skirt on it??

Zagato was the main culprit in using these awkward lights and wrecking some faces (IMO).....

Here they ruined a perfectly good mustang, just for those silly lights....

Or these odd oval ones. Seems like they were usually on French cars....

I'm wrong - the oval rectangles were French Cibie lights and they showed up on French faces...
