I'm surprised they ran to 1977 as I had a first year UK BMW 3 series 320 (carb and 2l engine) and it was a 1976 car I bought in 1983. It was my first car out of university. It broke a lot, but it had had a bad previous owner and I got it as it was cheap. My Dad had a door damaged when using my 1968 Volvo123GT. I needed a car to get to my first job in Swindon, SW England so had to get a temp car. Ended up keeping it for maybe 4 years as it took 2 years to find a door for the 123GT. You could no longer buy new so we had to look for a used one and 2 door 120's were rare in the UK. It was finally sold to a crazy Iranian buddy of mine who eventually took it backwards through a hedge into a field writing it off at high speed. 123 GT was also written off when my younger brother was using it and was hit by a box truck in a stopped queue.

Haha! That’s a really nice one! The “Roundie” rear lights and little bumpers went to 1973. I’ve been randomly shopping for one of those half my life, never got serious enough to just do it. Now a rusted out project car is 8 or 10,000. And you do have to watch for rust on those.

Sort of related…..I may get my son’s 86 E30 back. That’s a 325es, grandson of the 2002. Also crisp lines. Straight 6, we swapped a manual transmission in and rebuilt the car together. Now he’s adulting, has a 40 mile round trip commute, his mother Mrs Bart is freaked about him driving that low thing with no airbags in traffic, and he doesn’t want to wear it out. They leased an electric car for a screaming deal, they have an older Outback for hiking and trips, and he said he really doesn’t want to sell his car to a stranger after all we did. Asked if I’d consider taking it back. Kind of sweet really. I said any time. I’m kind of excited. (But it needs work)
