Re: The I Worked on My Car Today Thread
Two control arms, an end link, a headlight lens, front brake pads today on the wagon. PCV tomorrow maybe. It is coming along nicely with the help of the local pick and pulls.

Had what I feel is a false alarm yesterday on my 2000 V70. I was reinstalling my Dice drivers by the side of the road on my laptop and nowhere near home (10kms)
Got the Dice drivers reinstalled as it was popping up with "new hardware found" every time I inserted the cord. Thought I'd go a step further and do a sweep test with Vida on the non-Sacer ETM I currently have installed. No problems; it passed with flying colours!!
So I go to take off and the ETS light illuminates. The car goes into a slow limp with almost no more power than 10hp and only 40k/hr top speed and I have to pull over. I read codes and the only one showing is Accelerator Pedal sensor. I clear it and it comes back straight away after 10 metres of driving. So I end up driving all the way home while dodging traffic by clearing codes with my Torque app (much quicker than Vida) Torque however finds no fault but the clear codes command works a treat.
By now I'm really pissed. It's 2:00pm and I have a school appointment with the missus in 30 minutes and no time to work on the car. So I get on the phone to Carson & Murphy/Berry Volvo and finally we settle on a price of $195 for a pedal assembly.
School appointment goes great and the three of us (child in tow) head 25 kms across town to pickup the pedal assembly. At 4:10pm the guy who I spoke to had to rush out and he didn't ask one of the mechanics to pull the assembly. So we wait.....at 5:00pm the pedal is on the counter and we have a swimming lesson to get to at 5:30pm close to home. We high-tale it back across town and we miss the lesson. I spend the next 2 hours at the pool in the water getting my left ear waterlogged again.
We come home, eat take out dinner and finally go back to the car with the new-to-me pedal to rescan the car. I clear the code again with Torque and I drive it 15 metres to get it across the road to our house. The ETS light stays off!! So now I want to make the code return because I want to be certain. The code stays away after a 20km drive.
The only thing I did was pull the connector to the pedal and wait 3 hrs before getting back to repair it. Was it the connector with some corrosion on terminals or did the ECM need time to clear itself? Who knows but I'm keeping the pedal just in case. Not really a worked on my car thread but a potential one:-)

Hey, precopster: sounds like a pretty normal day in the rat race of mid-America, too (unfortunately : / ) How many times did you invoke your "obstacles" mantra through the course of it all?
I got the top half off of my 855 turbo. I've fixed this vehicle up and it runs well, doesn't seem to have any issues, does have a decent sound system, everything works and it's a pleasure to drive. I was going to sell it but am kind of torn. The one thing that has bugged me is what apparently is a loud lifter. Intake #1, as determined by my handy Harbor Freight stethoscope. That tool with a very thin, long pickup tube really helps to pin down a noise.

So today I bit the bullet and pulled the top, loaded it with the lifters into my other 855 (base model) and took them all to a well regarded cylinder head shop (in biz since the 1930's, same family). The tech there toured me through the innards of a hydraulic lifter. Who knew there are 2 tiny springs and a check ball inside those things. And a tiny hole for oil to pulse in through. Hopefully, rebuilding them will clear up the clinking in the top end. We'll see, he says, optimistically.

I am new to this site. Recently bought a V70 that was neglected. A few days ago I Installed front struts, front brakes, sway bar end links. Got new tires and an alignment. Replaced the broken cup Holder, and found a third row seat in the local pick and pull. Still need to do a tune up to resolve a mis-fire, and there is an exhaust leak at the flex joint on the manifold. it is a work in progress, but the kids and I like it.

0630 hours - replaced Left front caliper with 40 USD rebuild, bled brakes - now it matches the RF caliper which froze up on me this week
Reinstalled Timing belt cover and valve plastic cover, and ECU to radiator air hose.
