If you are (were) following up on VolvoWildman, note his work is on the flame trap housing not the PTC. Opening up the flame trap housing should be a good move IMHO.abscate wrote: ↑08 Apr 2018, 17:02 The PTC nipple is a maintenance item that should be cleaned every 60,000 miles. If it is plugging up faster than this, you have blow by or a badly slugged engine to address.
Changing the size of the hole is changing the balance of the vacuum from the intake manifold on overrun, and the snorkel during boost operation.

Do you think that this also should be done along with heater or fuel hose modification?erikv11 wrote: ↑27 Aug 2018, 14:13If you are (were) following up on VolvoWildman, note his work is on the flame trap housing not the PTC. I have only removed the flame trap from my NA cars, never modified the housings.

Good mod, but WOAHHHHH STEADY ON!
For chissakes use 5/8 16mm fuel-hose, NOT heater hose. Else the oil and petrol can degrade the hose - it'll go like custard, and start dragging in the crud.
My tip: On my 1999 NA car I removed the restrictive plastic elbow that Tees into the large air intake hose, and replaced with a brass Female 1/2" BSP brass plumbing-fitting with a 16mm 5/8" hose-tail/barb.. I'm sure there's a Yankside equivalent. [I think US plumbing-fittings might be NPT, thus use Yank 1/2" NPT which is very close to 1/2" BSP Imperial].
See what you've did... Throwing perfectly decent tea into a river was a perfectly daft idea anyway....
Another tip: The tiny 4-5mm bore hose gets clogged, thus I bought an 8mm hose take-off and put that in the main air-intake hose.
The factory plastic elbow on my NA has a Tee for the smaller hose. It's this I moved to a hose take-off.
Easier to check too.

I run a very rare Factory CNG powered 1999 V70.

Reviving and older -- but excellent -- thread on PVC modifications to ask...
I'm about to tackle this job on my 97 855 and I am going to use the Parker Push-Lok 836-10 fuel line hose, 5/8" (16mm) diameter, instead of the official Volvo line that cracks. Any recent updates on how this mod has been performing for those who have done it? Thanks.

We have it done on both of our cars. Did them both about 3-4 years ago. No issues for us.jreed wrote: ↑09 Dec 2021, 05:32 Reviving and older -- but excellent -- thread on PVC modifications to ask...

What did you use to make that hose from the oil trap to the top of the cam cover?

That's just an off-the-shelf part. For some reason they're different, but I can't recall why. One comes up between #1 an #2 and the other between #2 and #3.

Ah ok, thanks.
I thought the difference in those two was because of where the FPR is located, but then again I also thought it was more clearly connected to NA/turbo differences. Obviously that last point doesn't hold up for your two cars.

Great looking installation... an inspiration for me. What is the 90 degree fitting in the main line (circled in yellow below)? What material and where did you source it please?
