Re: AW55-50SN woes-easy to repair?
Just a thought: are you certain that small filter has the flow rate required ? Perhaps try a bypass.

I removed the external filter and tried two different TCM’s. I rebuilt the three linear solenoids as well reamed their bushings and made external vent holes on the back of each one so they can self clean. All the better designs have this feature upgrade.
I will punch a lot more holes in the filter material as I think I may have only punched 1-2 holes that are 2 mm in diameter.
Fluid is full of Mobil 3309. TCM codes reset and runs in limp mode in M2 and M5 gears.
Will report my finding ASAP.
Again thanks for all your support and suggestions.

One of the main issues with the early bushing material is its ability to become magnetised. No amount of drainage will help here. Omega Machine have upgraded bushings for around $30 as well as the opening tool.
TCC solenoid is one of the smaller ones. Do you have documentation to identify it?
Definitely punch more holes.

In this video you can see I took the back of each Linear solenoid off and reamed the bushings at work with a 4.00 mm reamer. Then I put 6 holes on the back of the solenoids sheet metal cover and then crimped the covers back on. You can buy after market solenoids that have this self cleaning cover on them. I made my own as I have access to a machine shop at work. Look closely at the aftermarket solenoids and you can see they cut holes in the edges of the back sheet metal cover and allows fluid to pass through the solenoids and "self clean" the solenoid.

It's a great idea as long as it doesn't affect the pressure at the pintle. If so you would need to flow test them and crank up the rear valve at the Allen key head. There are 3 places to check each solenoid's pressure setting with a guage on the transmission at the rear cover. I don't know if you're aware of this.
Many people drill holes in the valve body cover which line up exactly with the adjustment screws. If you look for a poster here on MVS called 01_Nautic_V70 you can see how he has done this on a couple of valve bodies. Also Hirram Gutierrez (his You Tube Channel is named "Automatic Transmission") has posted a few YouTube videos about Aisin rebuilds where he discusses the importance of solenoid calibration.

Just drained the ATF again last night and punched a few more holes in the internal filter. I found some "stuff" on the skewer when I pulled it out. Then I refilled the fluid reusing the old (but still really new 25 miles on it) Mobil 3309 and when pouring it back in I see that I must be breaking the stuff up that's on the filter. The paint filter I used to filter the fluid has this stuck on it after I poured the last quart in. YUCK!
Take a look at the stuff.
I'm back to running my inline filter in that has a clear material so I can watch it.

What kind of inline filter is that? Would be neat to be able to tell when it's time to change by looking at it like that
Also i don't remember there being a video with the whining sound the starved pump makes in the thread. Do any of you have one? My car is making some kind of rev-dependent whining sound and if replacing my current suspect, the worn ac bearing, doesn't work this might be the next thing to look at.

Thanks!
Hmm, it's sort of the same kind of sound but mine is much less harsh. On the other hand, mine functions as it should still although not as smoothly as my last car which had 100000 km less on it when I flushed it (probably first time it's been done on both cars). I don't really hear the sound too well until I start driving at low speeds so it's a bit hard to listen around the engine compartment for it. I'll see if I can record it and perhaps get a group opinion of it here.

We were discussing how to clean these filters in this thread. After seeing that crud I'm convinced the filter MUST be bypassed.
Mine had pretty bad pump whine but not as loud as your video. Now I have O2 sensor or MAF problem; and a dead power seat module; does it ever end? Back to a non turbo with manual seats next time.......
