Took a pic of my car today from the snow we got last night. Supposed to get more snow over the next couple of days.

I did order a Sach's strut kit and Sach's shock kit from FCPEuro that should be here in a couple of days. Not sure when it'll be warm enough to swap everything out, but at least I'll be prepared when it is. Only thing I need to swap from the old struts are the springs.

The 08 C30 T5 received it's first oil change using Castrol Edge Titanium 0W-40. Son reported 29 MPG on a 140 mile freeway trip. Previous oil change was with Liqui Moly 5W-40 and MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment. The best mileage was 27.8 MPG on the same 140 mile drive. All cars receive Premium fuel. Can't recall the last time using Regular grade fuel. Another first, car in garage after 5 1/2 years since relocating.

Painted mirror caps silver similar to the R-Design caps. First attempt was more Chrome like but the Satin clearcoat ran like water so had to wait a day for it to dry and sand off. Primer after removing clearcoat and two thin coats of Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish. Paint still fresh so didn't buff with Griot.

Ceramic Coated car Tuesday. It's worth the cost, time, energy and effort. Sat for over 2 1/2 days in the garage to cure. Car has a sparkle shine, trim is black again, tail lights also has reflective sparkle and all exterior glass is slick. Didn't think to take pictures, son in hurry back to college.

Washed, clay, Mothers using DA with orange pad, Griot using DA with black pad, alcohol wipe entire car and applied Ceramic Coat and lightly buff. The clarity in the paint is not from buffing rather the coating itself.

Mothers removed scratches, Griot (Amazing) brought out mirror shine and Ceramic coating brought depth and sparkle to shine.

I told my son that knocking sheets of ice off his bumper, being it's flexible was not proof of the Hydrophobic qualities of the Ceramic Coating.

"The entire car was covered, but you don't have to knock hard at all. There were a lot of people struggling with their ice scrapers. I didn't need to use one at all. The windshield came off in one piece".

I wish it was but it's in Virginia. For those who are used to this kind of weather, looking at the ice formation do you think Avalon King prevented the ice from bonding with the paint surface? He was able to roll down both windows and then push and punch out both sheets of ice. From the video it didn't look like the ice had thawed. He indicated a lot of people were struggling with their ice scrapers.

If you have not used the ceramic coating, what ice removal techniques do you find works best? Scraper, defroster while idling, hot water (just kidding), other?

If you have time, warm it up, absolutely. Use the teeth on the back of your plastic window scraper to gradually dig at the ice. We have also used an old credit card.

I remotely remember using hot water when I was much, much younger. I do remember that from some experience somewhere I know to never use hot water on the windshield.

Most recently, I've use a gallon pump sprayer (lawn care type) with warm water and some dish or laundry soap. This is when I forget to install the Frost Blocker. This is for frost and not thick ice mind you. Of course if it needs to be cleared quicker I would use a 5 gallon HD orange bucket filled with warm water and pour.

I purchased 2 of these individually in the Costco warehouse a couple of years apart. One is large so it fits the minivan and the other smaller works for the 03 S80 T6.

We have one of those. It works quite well....if you remember to put in on when you get home.

Yesterday we rolled the drivers window down at the coffee shop....and the glass fell into the door! It didn't break, but it was loose in there to the point the rear corner was sticking out of the opening into the street. It is very cold and snowing every day, bad timing. I turned on the key and tested the motor - it's not connected to the glass. I wiggled and pulled up and finally squeezed the glass with one hand inside and one outside, managed to pull it up into the rubber and all the way to the top. I put some shipping tape here and there to keep it from falling again.

I have an appointment at the glass shop that replaced this window - but that was two years ago, not sure what the warranty is. I'm not sure it's all their fault really. It could have broken back then because it bound up and cracked when raising. So maybe something is off or broken in the tracks or the cradle that carries the glass. I thought I'd take it in vs taking the door apart in the snow - they have the glass mounting expertise.

But, this car starts up in any temperature and makes heat right away, we're very pleased.
