For those of you wondering, abscate I think meant to say thank you in Mohawk which is spelled
Nia:wen kowa (with the 'k' sounding like a 'g' as in the word 'go'). Glad you found the bolt!!

I have the camshaft cover bolted on and all 40 bolts torqued to 13 ft lbs!! Now the question is, how far from the outside of the cover do the two larger seals (located next to the camshaft pulleys) need to be? I have them both in .25". Do they need to be tapped in more than that? Appreciate all recommendations!

I found another website with a slew of great pics of removing cam seals, timing marks, etc., including one of a cam seal after installation. Take a look:

http://www.atthetipwebs.com/technologyi ... s70glt.htm

Looks like the ones I installed on my car are in far enough. But if you think they need to go in just a tad further, do let me know asap! TIA :)

On the cam seals you will find the full range of opinions from exactly flush with the outer surface to all the way in. All of those seem to work fine, as long as the seal is straight. I go for flush.

Greetings!
I have another question, this time about the camshaft position sensor (CPS). When I attach it to the rear driver's side camshaft, there is only one way the sensor goes on, but I wondered if there was also a bracket for a hose that is positioned underneath the sensor housing, so that when the bolt is inserted, both the sensor and the bracket are secured at the same time. Or does that hose bracket attach to the "A" shaped motor support. The bracket is very shiny, so to me it made sense that it is placed under the sensor and not exposed to the elements.

While I am here, a second question is about the positioning of the rotor when attached to the bracket at the end of the intake driver's side camshaft. The bolt holes, like the pulley side of the camshafts, are positioned either one bolt on top, two on the bottom OR two on top and one on the bottom. I can't seem to locate any pics that would show the proper location of this bracket and the one bolted on with the CPS. Appreciate your help on these two dilemmas! :)

The cam position sensor housing is bolted on by itself with nothing under it. It is fairly important that the sensor be bolted on so that it remains absolutely flat against the head. Be careful that the cam position trigger is properly aligned before you torque it down. It doesn't really fit right but some have managed to get it bolted on upside down.

The rotor will only go on in one direction and it will do so effortlessly. I think you can start a screw with it not positioned properly but the others won't line up.

I'm not sure of your v70 is the same as my '96 850, but on mine the lower camshaft sensor bolt also attaches a bracket that positions the turbo vacuum hoses. Like Lee says, the bracket is on the outside of the CPS, which fits up snugly against the head.

Thanks, Lee and MrPC for your insight and knowledge on the V70s and 850s!
Have attempted to install the timing belt this evening, but the exhaust camshaft keeps moving! Looks like I need to stabilize the rear parts of the camshafts with the grooves!! Will try again tomorrow. Then I can situate the brackets, rotor, CPS, etc to the rear sections of the camshafts.
Thanks, again!

Man, I just read through all 12 pages of this post. It's like a novel where I am waiting for the big climax (starting of the car). It's got me riveted. Lol! This is become a group effort.

That is the nice thing about this site - it has a lot of experienced Volvo owners and mechanics (shadetree and pro) that have no qualms about sharing what they know, the do's and don't's; and the tutorials are equally as priceless! Hi-5's to all who have contributed :)
