Rack jobs are such a PITA, I think that's why I got my R so cheap because the PO realized what a daunting task it was. The most stressful part of my job was reconnecting the hard lines and not cross threading them. I did cross thread one of them a bit. I cut one of the nuts off my parts car and used that to re-tap the thread. I bought a reman SMI OEM rack and it seems a little softer (over assisted) IMO. It might be feeling that way more because of the new squishy snow tires.

The end nuts are flare connectors.

Inverted double flair is more common with American and Asian cars.
DIN bubble flare is more common with European cars.

Determine the type and size and you can replace the threaded connector.
Flaring tools to form the end of the hard line are $12.00 - $20.00.

There is probably enough slack to cut the line and reflare it, even if there isn’t , I’ll document the flare and thread on the return line here

The supply line is a flange an oring on my 1999

Is it a Inverted double or a bubble?

45° sides is a SAE Inverted double (Left side in picture).
Rounded sides is a bubble (Right in picture) .

There is a 37° Inverted double but it is not used in Automotive.

Well no luck with that alloy line. It’s almost round and not even moving with a vice grip. Maybe cross threaded fro factory?

On the upside, Tasca shipped me my stem seal kit and FCP my valves and I’ll deliver to machine shop today.

It will be the dis-similar metals issue. You know this issue from the AWD rear sub-frame and salt over the years.

You may have to cut the pipe off and then heat it to try to get the different metals to expand and contract to break the intermetal 'weld' that has happened.

I wish you lots of luck!

Neil.

You get credit for weather delays, and in some cultures, it's either tea-time or beer-breaks.
I stared at my rack once, couldn't figure out how to get a line wrench on either fitting without doing exactly what you did. My problem was solved when the motor blew up.

Kally got hers off on car with dropping, I don’t know how the frack she did that. You can just get a crows foot on them but if they freeze up at all , they will round off really quickly

The trick might be to remove the sway bar and two internal hardlines on the rack to get tool clearance, Clarence.

If you are committed to the rack job like me, then waiting until the subframe is dropped makes the access a lot better. Remember to remove all the ps line clamps first. Worst case, Dremel off and replace with junkyard stock.....sigh , another line(s) to harvest

New lines cost about $100 for return, $200 for supply each but are a joy to put on.
