Is ... the SAAB Gripen is still in production.

If it was in the 70s it could not of been a Gripen. The Gripen was introduced in 1987. Could be a Saab 35 Draken or a Saab 37 Viggen.

The Saab Gotland, Södermanland and Blekinge class submarines with the Stirling engines is what turns my head. They are so stealth that in war games they slip through the US Navy defenses.

Any production Stirling engine is interesting because of the level of thermodynamic engineering required.
A Stirling engine submarine! Very cool. I had never heard of that.

This link says the Saab ad was in 1969 and was the Draken fighter. Actually, the date was closer than I expected.

Must be working because the whole idea is not to be heard.
Kind of ironic that the solution was a 200 year old engine design invented by a Scottish clergyman to save lives.

They discontinued the Grippen because the pilots all kept getting sick. The. Viggen never caught on because too many pilots still ate meat.

Replaced my rubber windshield trim pieces. I nabbed these strips of rubber off a few S60’s separately at my local pick-a-parts and glued them to my drip rail trim pieces w/ this 3M weatherstrip adhesive. I put painters tape on the painted surface of the trim and the surface of the rubber that shows to catch anything that oozed out.

Finished restoring the AWD on the S60 R. Get ready for winter!

Earlier this week I replaced the Haldex oil pump and filter; almost became a nightmare job as I damaged the housing a bit trying to get the old pump out. It was horribly corroded and stuck in there. Then today I installed the drive shaft and filled the Haldex oil and marveled at the sight of all four wheels spinning while in drive on the jackstands. Will finalize adjusting the oil level later, after a short drive around town.

Hopefully this does it but I won't know until I get it on the road in another week or two. Have some minor suspension work to do and pulling the bumper cover to replace the wiper fluid pump. Also plan to change the gear oil in the rear differential.

Did a quick clean of the XC70 headlight plastic covers as they were getting milky. I have been apprehensive of doing this because not only are they hard to find used in good condition, but new ones are over $1000 each. Decided I just had to go for it. They look better but Volvo must cover the plastic lenses with some really thick clear coating. I rubbed and rubbed them with 1000 grit and it made a difference but not as much as I'd hoped. I realise I will have to remove the headlights to do this properly due to the curvature on the covers, but that can now wait until the spring as the car is going to be used more as the 'R' goes into hibernation next week when the snow is due to arrive.

There's a known trick how to recover the headlights clarity and keep them clear for longer than a couple of months: sand them all the way down, gradually polish with lesser and lesser gritty sandpaper, add a clear coat layer (Wipe New works great), protect with Lamin-X or other polyurethane film.

I did mine last time about 2 years ago, still look good. Before that, without Lamin-X, had to repeat the process every year, and the headlights still looked milky at least half of that time.

Thanks for the advice. I plan to coat them with 2K clearcoat once I do them properly. That should last a long time. But to do this I need to remove the headlights and that needs the front bumper to come off so it can wait for now.

Front bumper is maybe 5 minutes, it is trivial on P2.
