If it was in the 70s it could not of been a Gripen. The Gripen was introduced in 1987. Could be a Saab 35 Draken or a Saab 37 Viggen.
The Saab Gotland, Södermanland and Blekinge class submarines with the Stirling engines is what turns my head. They are so stealth that in war games they slip through the US Navy defenses.
Any production Stirling engine is interesting because of the level of thermodynamic engineering required.
