It looks like the gaskets are not the same between the '98 and '99, especially if you have a fuel injection throttle. I checked on the FCP site, found the '99 part numbers and shape of the gasket to be different from the '98. Thanks for the offer, though!

It will go, it is just tough. With a new spacer I snapped it on and off of an old tensioner a few times to loosen it up out of the car where I could get a good grip on it. The same thing could be done with anything that is round and about the same diameter as the rod out of the tensioner. That spacer is actually pretty important if the tensioner fails. My '94 had the tensioner fail and the spacer kept the timing belt tight enough that it never jumped time. It did start to make a funny slapping noise which led me to check it before bad things happened. The spacer saved my bacon.

Thanks, Lee! I will try again with a little bit more force.

I am reconnecting the fan and all the vacuum lines and have a few that I am struggling with - trying to find where they connect. I will post pics shortly so you can see where I am having problems. I have not found any decent photos that show these lines.

Behind the very bottom connection is another plug, with two prongs. I believe the small connector sort of in the middle of this pic goes to that. One of the three prong connectors goes to the IAC valve, another to the TPS, but not sure which connector goes to what device. Then there is the black vacuum line near the vacuum tree at the top left. I will have to follow that line to see where it possibly originates.

Appreciate your help on this!

The black vacuum line disappears under the airbox! I will have to remove the airbox to see where else it goes (if that is possible). The two connectors that have three prongs in them originate from the same wiring harness. One is covered with a hard plastic, the other has a coil-like thin plastic covering like those found on the fuel injector lines. Again, I appreciate your help on this!

Lots of pics and info here for vac lines for a non-turbo like yours: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=65002.

Your connectors are for cam and crank sensor (and IAC and TPS like you mentioned), you can't really get them mixed up they will only fit on the proper sensor.

You really can reconnect these cars by finding the matching socket and sticking them together...kudos to the Swedish engineers on this aspect.

The spacer is essential; get it in there if you have to employ nuclear powered hydraulic rams :-)

In the event of hydraulic tensioner failure that plastic spacer is saving you 20 hrs of labour and $600-700 in parts.

The TB gasket on the non turbo is a paper type. Can you cut one out of gasket paper yourself?

Thin black plastic line attaches to the air door which regulates temperature coming into the air cleaner. Not uber critical in summer but you should put it right to start.

On edit..corrected by Erik to cruise control pump below

I took a good 6-7 cranks to get my 99 fired up, 5-10 seconds per crank, 30 seconds rest in between. It was firing and sputtering right away but took a while before catching
