Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
Well, nothing (really) today aside from adding more weather stripping to some free NIB Amazon Basics cross bars I happened across. Holy cow do they whistle without the trim pieces slid in there! Despite being a bit bulky/tall compared to my other Volvo/Thule bars, they eem real solid for what I paid though, fit very well too.

I’ve taken some time off from the boards I frequent; I’m resurfacing. Sometimes life teaches us that the compass needs some recalibration. Anyhow, in the last month here’s what P2 endeavors I’ve tackled.
By the way, if anyone needs to borrow my ball joint installer/tool seen in the photos it is freely theirs, just pay shipping to & fro. It is a thing of beauty! For years I avoided its use & just did things the old fashioned way. Another custom of mine relegated to the past.
2004 V70 AWD:
156,402
- new DEM pump (S-Tec/Borg Warner (Hungary & identical to more costly OEM Volvo pump)), AOC filter & fluid
- tire rotation
- oil change (Rotella T6 5/40 & Mahle filter)
- ATF change (D&F, Maxlife, 4qt)
- lower steering u-joint lubricated (stiff at every 90 degrees)
- Alignment of front end (rear stay eccentric bolts seized to bushings)

Hahaha I actually pinched a nerve in my thigh years back, and I'm 99% certain it was from habitually sitting on my wallet. Hasn't happened again since I've found a new transport location for the leather money flaps.

Hi Pete, Nice find for an alternative for the Dem pump. Can you please share where you purchased this and how much?- Pete - wrote: ↑21 Dec 2021, 23:18 I’ve taken some time off from the boards I frequent; I’m resurfacing. I still have the original pump and may need to replace it soon.

You can get a replacement wire harness for $90. I installed one like this a year ago.

I ended up buying it through FCP during their Black Friday thing. I had a coupon code also.
Being unwilling to pay the Volvo part’s price was my first motivator. Having tested positive for Covid & a sudden abundance of time on my hands was another. I corresponded with a few corporate people, read up on some Audi boards, eventually I asked my questions directly to FCP & they essentially told me everything I’d already discovered about the S-Tec/Borg Warner pump.
Here’s a copy of the email I received back from FCP. Interesting that they answered the question I posted publicly, but only via direct email to me. My original/publicly posted question question vanished. I re-posted it, but simplified my query.
Original question:
How is this “Hungarian made” S-Tec/Magna pump in comparison to the OEM Volvo pump (which also appears to be made in Hungary) as far as quality/longevity/durability goes?
The answer posted by FCP Product Team:
After some digging, we've found these to be whitebox Borg Warner, which is the supplier that makes the genuine unit (the packaging is actually better on these). These are identical to genuine and made on the same assembly line, therefore we have rebranded this to the correct manufacturer, Borg Warner.

Here’s the link to the Borg Warner AOC/DEM pump on FCP. Cheaper than the Volvo pump on Amazon (of which I own/installed 1 already in my 310k XC) & has the FCP warranty so I figured I can’t lose & am unwilling to live with a dying/soon to be dead DEM pump.
