When you go to smog it in CA , they look for the plate to correlate with the data in the computer to give them the list of emissions equipment to look for. The smog test will not move forward until that step is complete.

Don’t assume there is a work around on this. They don’t fool around in CA. You can’t register it out of state and then drive it while you reside in CA, for example.

A local guy told me recently his brother in CA wanted to register a Mercedes in Oklahoma to avoid the smog test of CA. The OK tag agent said don't even try it. The states all share computer information and CA would know.

It has a temporary PA plate on it along with inspection stickers so that might work. It's all stock so it should pass no problem.

There's plenty of work arounds. My old roomates have had their cars registered in AZ for years. Not a single issue from it. But that's for another time

Ca has gone active and patrols streets looking for out of state cars that stay more than 30 days. You can get away with it or you can get caught. Fines are substantial

Registration in another state won’t help you pass smog. You have to have the right stuff on the car after 1975

Stock in Japan won’t help , it needs to be stock for CA that year

There are a decent amount of states that do not require any sort of smog. Montana, Wyoming, most of Arizona and Nevada, south dakota etc. I am not saying to register it there, all I'm saying is that it is possible and not as enforced as one might think. Multiple people parked here on the street with AZ & NV plates for months. It's hard to prove that a vehicle was in the state for 30 consecutive days

But anyhow I digress. the car should pass smog from my research the cars are more or less the same for the 850s. I need to replace a shock on it and do a basic tune up. Plugs, oil, air filter, fuel filter etc etc
