Is this an automatic or a manual? I must have missed something... My apologies.

An update:
Finally able to replace the spring clip with the Volvo part. The old clip suffered some damage, as did the splines on the shaft. Used a dremel to smooth out the jagged edges on a few of the splines. Installed a new seal before inserting the shaft into the housing.
With a tiny bit of twisting, the shaft went in smoothly.
Jacked up the wheel after getting the control arm back in and bolted, then torqued the nuts to the control arm.
Still need to put the tire on, lower that corner of the car so I can torque the axle nut.
Am hopeful that with the new spring clip and seal, the leakage of transmission fluid will subside.

The third picture above shows the new clip on the left, old clip on right, with the end of the shaft. It’s not entirely clear but the newer clip has a slightly smaller gap between the two ends.

Another update on leakage in a week or so.

Here are a few pictures of the drivers side axle after installation to the transmission housing.
They are not the greatest but the gap between the shaft and housing seen in the previous pictures is a bit smaller now.

I put in a new shaft output seal and a new spring clip - I think they helped!
I will report back on any leakage.
Thanks to everyone for all your help! Much appreciated 😏
