That on top of the cluster should be immo box on s,v,c,xc70 cars from '97-'99.

This (on left) came on mine 99 V70 CDM dashboard and.. just antenna booster circuitry which connects to VGLA Alarm box.

For me it took for this setup roughly 11 minutes dig PIN code (nothing fancy way.. no sparks and explosions). Its up to PIN code how long it will take. I did shoot where mostly they are so it wouldn't take so long but who knows for all...
Tried it on my car (98 V70, early one built in 97) today, took about an hour to get the code :D It's in the 5xxx, so i'm guessing your app just bruteforce every code until it finds the right one ?

Hi thanks for the results!
Yes as told nothing fancy for now :) its simple rolling until finds correct one. Bosch modules are jerks as they usually wont let to do that as directly so after a user send log with attempt i got interested to order the module to verify could it be so easy... and turned out to be

Happy too its just four digit.. and not six digit one as that one will take ~5 days.
As i am recovering my MSA15.7 ECM PIN code to activate Cruise Control at moment. After i know mine i can look other way dig it.

:D :D
Still wondering about this. The real deep understanding would be to know where vida is actually writing key information

Lock control module 2-76?
VGLA unit?
CDM?
ECU?
Some of the above ?
All of the above?

I want clarify terms as i cannot try myself explain before it.
2-76 is the VGLA (Volvo Guard Lock And Alarm System) unit on Volvo diagrams.
I previously has mentioned here 4/19 as VGLA but i mistook it and 4/19 is just the receiver antenna box.. Do'h me.

Key i refer to small chip with ID and other bits (data) IMMO retrieve from inside ignition key.
Remote i refer to.. remote, key fob etc.. this and key was separate units and are not linked / merged together before P3 platform with new tv remote styled key fobs.

CDM can be replaced alone per P/N with only programming the program data what it holds.
This is in VIDA Replacing driver information control unit section. Vehicle Communication >> Reading off programmed values in the combined instrument panel.
Can see what is all there what will be moved around plus i assume as it needs CDM reload there is additional configs to talk with ECM plus VIN for VIDA so VIDA knows what car is and configuration and so with wrong CDM can confuse modules (maybe ECM and TCM?) on its own or itself.
This is not related to security system if asking from me as i dont see anywhere Volvo itself referring to CDM in terms of security system. ECM and CDM talking i am not super familiar with in full length (only, speedo, RPM etc basic data exchange) and there is no fault code existing to show ECM and CDM checking each other for if it fails like with IMMO and ECM there is in terms of security.

IMMO2 (850, 900 series) and IMMO3 (97 year and up models) hold key data and it communicates with ignition key.
IMMO2 and 3 communicates with ECM and checks is it correct ECM via VERLOG line of IMMO module (encrypted com).
IMMO3 outputs state additionally to VGLA unit but very very limited way. It uses IMMO3 LED Output which is only ON or OFF signal. IMMO3 turns it ON if Key was CORRECT and makes VGLA happy.

VGLA holds Remote's data and looks after locks and checks IMMO3 status was Key OK and prevents car starting in its own way if something wrong.

ECM stops engine running if IMMO module did let it know key was wrong or IMMO module was wrong.

So if i consider your question shortened here..
IMMO module holds key data and ECM handshake data
VGLA holds Remote data
and ECM holds IMMO handshake data (sometimes this includes VERLOG / VIN code in this check).

I also need to do this on my 98 V70R (the key trick does not work on my NA model either. Why? Well, because that would just be too easy, right?). Were you able to accomplish this by reading the EEPROM. As suggested? If so, how long is that process? I happened to discover recently that the 850 OBDII app now (or I missed it initially) has a process in the scan → advanced menu to retrieve your VGLA code. Same menu as to add a new remote, now that I think about it. Anyway, I have yet to utilize this as I haven't gotten around to getting another remote amidst my rebuild after getting T-boned and the cascade of issues that wound up causing. Plus the app states a few times that the process can take about 2 hours to complete.

I found I did not the PIN to add my remotes to Shagg, the 1999 with Denso management. It did have to be done with VIDA connected to Volvo.
