Pumps I believe had only 2 options on P80's. -98 which had the integrated pump and tank, and 99- with the separate tank.

The racks up to 97 (850's) were mostly all TRW as I recall. SMI became the main used one after 97 in the V/S/C70's but both were used and hence the 'code' 4 or 5 to identify. What you can't tell is now 25+ years on is which is fitted for sure short of getting the car in the air and checking. Both SMI and TRW had their names either cast or stamped into the bodies of the rack.

You can use either rack. The differences are the tie rods are different.

FYI I ordered a rebuilt rack from Detroit Axle and it's already leaking from the same side my original rack was leaking (left side).
It has a lifetime warranty but I can't use it for a planned upcoming manual swap, so I'm calling it a loss.
Also I tried to rebuild my PS pump but it didn't work for whatever reason. Just bought a rebuilt unit and it's been working fine.

That is some helpful info. Thank you! I decided not to get the rebuild kit just because I wasnt sure if I could do it. I hope the spare on I have works fine. Ill probably get a new ps hose in place of that kit. The one with the all steel inlet on the front was bent slightly in the frontal collision in early 2023.

I'll see if I can track that down. Pretty sure I just googled the part number and picked one.

Rehashing.

We had three members , pre-Covid, who had Cardone racks lock up while driving.

I think that pretty much summarizes why they fell out off the boat for us.
