A throwout bearing makes noise when the clutch is OUT (engaged)
It's usually quiet when depressed

Could be a worn pilot bushing, too much slop on the output shaft, allowing the plates to rumble around down there...just a guess...

Bottom line is clutch or something is not good making that noise when the clutch is in.

...It's time for volvoaddict007's....

If we remove the word 'good' from the sample sentence the new sentence would then read:

"Bottom line is clutch or something is not making that noise when the clutch is in."

Just messin' with you Equinutok and JRL... You are right. I believe you are referring to a 'dry' bearing which is what I was referring to as can last for a long time. It's when that bearing makes a lot of noise when depressing the clutch as to bad news time.

It's been about 25 years since I had a bad throwout bearing. But IF I'm not mistaken, ( always a good possibility ) a FURTHER deteriorated bearing will make more noise when depressed as I believe is what you meant with your itallicization of the word usually.

Sorry I am new to the forum. I am trying to find out why the ABS light and the Trac light are lit. I have just had all new brakes put on. Is this just a short somewhere? Where do I start looking?

Holy thread bump!

There is a 99% chance that you ABS problem is the ABS module itself. All of the post '95 modules fail at some point.

You can either get the module rebuilt by Victor Rocha, Module Masters, or the eBay guys. If you are decent with a soldering iron you can fix it yourself for free.
