Thks.
Remote is preferred. If you do not have one, using the key in the driver's door will work as well.

Here's a pic of the siren's code displayed on my BSR PPC diag tool. Only cost me $200 on eBay. Dealers charge a min of $50 to clear codes and I've already used it about four times. ;)

Hi, I've been having the alarm problem for some time now but it's really bad now. I bought the car used so I don't have a remote just the key. Well now the key won't open the car and the door switch will not unlock any of the door either. I checked the fuses and they are fine. I was thinking of going with an after market alarm system because that will give me keyless entry and I think it will be more economical than having volvo get me a remote. Now if I install the alarm systme myself do I still need to remove this module?

You can unplug the siren but there's a transponder in your key so you'll need to have another key made and tape one to the inside to the steering column to make the keyless system work.

I got my siren through parts.com for ~$150 but sounds to me like you're going to need a driver's door module too, which I got for about $350 from eEuroParts.com

I removed the door panel today and found that a little bar that moves the locks had come loose so everytime I turned the key there was nothing there to move. Replaced it and it came loose again cause the little lock that holds it in place had worn off so I had to improvise, so it would stay in place. As soon as it was back in place everything works again. I think I will replace the module next.

Very nice write up! I wish I pulled my fender well / mud guard back the correct way last time I had to get in there. I messed mine up a little bit  .

Nice howto! Wish I have seen it before going through the same :)

My siren was still working, but it had very, very low sound before I started to look for a solution.

I was removing it similar to the description, with the difference that I didn't remove the bracket. You can simply use a wrench to loosen the lower nut and take the siren out of the bracket. After dismantling, I found that mine was damaged just like the one on the pics.

I bought a replacement for about 20$ at an auto wrecker and installed it. I can confirm that no reprogramming is needed at all!

Hi there. In UK is cheaper to buy whole alarm set than only the siren. The difference is almost 50 pounds.Ask your main dealer about price and compare. It can save you some cash
