2001 Volvo Transmission - Buy a New Transmission or Rebuild?
Re: Should I buy a new tranny, have the old one rebuilt, or
The sticks stick in the tube and it has a lock tab on it. You can unlock and pull with one hand. (easy). I have nowhere seen what kind of problems you are having with the trans. What is wrong with it deside what you are reading. Us mechanics do not like to replave a part that is not bad just because the owner has read that there is a problem with them.I have put in several factory remans with no problems with them or having to do a computer update. Which I see you have all of them anywhay.Do a drain and refill with the Toyota fluid. Buy extra and do it about 3 times over a short time. Say every 200 miles this will flush out enough to make it clean. If you maintain it and change the fluid every 30k it should hold up good for you.If you are only wanting to change it because of what you are reading on the net let me give you some advise. STOP reading the web!!!!!

I have a 2001 v702.4t and it was having transimisson issues like most. It has a lot of miles and I'm not planning on keeping it forever so a new tranny was not an option. I took it to my local non dealer volvo guy and they replaced the brake band and did a flush. Total cost(with an oil change) was about $550 with tax. I don't know if it makes a difference but I was only feeling the "kick" in the lower gears.
I don't know if that is a fix for all things transmission related but it worked for me.

Wife mobile 2001 V70XC: 240,000 miles. Original tranny, Once a year one case of Mobil 3309 flushed through. Also have an IPD transmission filter installed, this also is changed each year. I'm sure that after this posting, the tranny shall hit the crapper. All the best!
