Considering an XC90

A mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the Volvo XC90 made its debut in 2002 at the Detroit Motor Show. Recognized for its safety, practicality, and comfort, the XC90 is a popular vehicle around the world. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). P2 platform.

Nope. It was never really "fixed". They replaced the transmissions with the same crap transmissions that were in them before. They were simply not built to handle the amount of torque that the T6 motor puts out, in this or S80 variants. The engine wasn't terribly reliable either; it was discontinued for the 2006 model year.

GM transmissions have never handled power well - their own truck engines blow them up all the time.

The AW transmissions in the 2.5T are the best - tried and true technology carried on from the smaller cars where they worked out the kinks in 2000, 2001, and 2002 model years. Likewise, the 6-speeds seem to be holding up well thus far.

They actually recently recalled a whole bunch of transmissions from the dealers because they were rebuilt to such shoddy quality. If the pre-2006 models have had a trans. replacement recently they might be "fixed". Otherwise, avoid them.

true, I was only saying I have a XC90 T6 12/04 build date, so its basically an 05 and the transmission failed at 110k that was the original one, and so far this one is still going strong 60k later, this is a daily drive and is used to tow a 5k boat in the summer. as far as the motor, never had a single problem, honestly besides the first transmission failure, there hasn't been any issues, other than timing belt and tune up. But I do the drain and fill every other oil change so every 10k. maybe I have just been lucky, or its the fact that I just take great care of my rigs. not sure. but I love my xc90 almost as much as my S70 T5 :)

I think if it came down to it, I would have a hard time choosing between the VW Toureg and the Volvo XC90 From my understanding the VW was better in EVERY single aspect over the Porsche. What kind of mileage does that T5 get compared to the V8? Were are talking about a heavy vehicle here! Wish Volvo made a pickup truck... Oh, no one has still answered how I can distinguish a FWD version over an AWD version. In addition, does the V8 and the T5 both come in an AWD version?
My 06 FWD t5 xc90 gets a combined city/hwy 19.5 mpg.
We like it, but we don't go offroad or tow anything. Its just our family car. We needed a 3rd seat and we love volvos. Also got a 98 v70 and a 91 240 wagon.
