hello everyone, I had my volvo 850 saloon stop running on me near 6 weeks ago. I just got the car back last
wednesday but although it's running ok it seems under powered like it has not got as much get up & go
in it as it had before being repaired this last time, (1) it keeps on stalling every time you stop
at an intersection, traffic light or stop sign, etc, & (2) it just doesn't seem to have the power it had before.
first though, why does it keep near stalling & stalling at idle and what can I do about it? inclusive in the last repair
was that it had to have a new idle sensor and another ecu as the original failed but I do not understand all
that has had to be done to it. I read elsewhere that there can be several causes for it stalling, too weak a fuel
mixture, too low a idle setting and god knows what else and before it gets mentioned my 1994 volvo
850 saloon has the 2.0 litre engine with 20 valves but has NO code reader anywhere, local dealer
thought that someone before me had it uninstalled and altered to 1996 model specs which I
think only a idiot would opt to do but any help would be appreciated

cam sensor had been the issue twice since april of this year when I bought the car and now a crank sensor and ecu and rotor
button and if you want I can email you the repair order minus name/address and cost if you will allow me your
email address otherwise I am not all that clear on what has actually been done to the car

I have also figured out that at least with the 20 valve 2.0 litre 1994 volvo 850 engine it is NOT a volvo engine
made by volvo but is a audi quatro rally car engine so no wonder it's (1) indestructable & (2) a
engine that has to have the daylights beaten out of it in order to work at all because the closer you
operate it near the red line the better it works so no wonder the volvo 850 is such a 5th rate
car as it is not really a volvo at all except on the badge proclaiming it's a damn volvo

I'm not sure who told you that load of bollocks, but stop taking car advice from them! The only engine in the 850 that's ever had anything even slightly to do with Audi design wise is the VAG TDi lump, which you don't have.lord william a wrote:I have also figured out that at least with the 20 valve 2.0 litre 1994 volvo 850 engine it is NOT a volvo engine

As for the lack of a code reader (which you should definitely have), on your RHD 850, it's on the LEFT when you face the car (so the drivers side) just behind the headlamp and it looks like this:

Unless of course someone's removed it from your car, which would suck!

car (1994 850 volvo saloon w/2.0 L 20 valve engine) was running fair at best but would insist upon stalling when stopping at intersections, traffic lights and in slow moving traffic and got very much worse recently, think sparking plugs N/G <that was 2 days ago, went to start it this morning car sputtered for a couple of seconds and quit after that no amount of trying will start the car and there is NO point in having me check the OBC because some previous owner before me had it removed so there is NO OBC.
What I need now is information on the cap thing that sits over the rocker cover so the sparking plugs can be removed and what is concerning me is whether by removing the thing covering the sparking plugs will it loosen the whole rocker cover?, I have a brand new set of NGK sparking plugs meant for this car on the way and when i last was on this chat board the car was at 145000 miles, its now at 152000 miles and I do not think the plugs have been changed during my time of owning this vehicle, also how many miles is it supposed to be between plug changes?

in continuation I must add that it does not appear to be sparking plugs but rather a fuel line blockage of some kind such as clogged fuel filter or maybe even crimped fuel lines so I need to ask where on a car like mine would the fuel filter or
fuel lines be found?
fuel lines be found?

This'll help with fuel filter. These cars can be very good but also very frustrating.

before i start on that do you think it might be the problem i thought it was as well?....there is sound like a fuel
pump where the OBC is supposed to be or right next to it OR sounds like it is in that area of the car that won't
stop trying to get the fuel system pressureized as long as the key switch is on and after this current problem does
not stop as long as the key is on but before that would stop a few seconds after the engine was switched
off......i dont want to put much more money into it unless I can easily resolve the current problem as I will
be relocating to a remote-ish area of the uk in a month or two and can't really have a temperamental type car about
and this 850 saloon has been temperamental since i have had it
