Cylinder head removal

Be certain you get 6 point impact socket for the head bolts. NO 12-pointers allowed.

nvm, i just tore it off, oh well, i'll have to use a regular screw clamp i guess...

Yay! i pulled the head!!! two noticibly bad exaust valves on cylinder 3, the rest look seated, but maybe a touch bent, gonna have to get my hands an a valve puller thingie tomorrow, only took 25 hours to get off!!!

My suggestion is to take the head to a machine shop where they can thoroughly go over it. It will run a couple of hundred dollars but a good machine shop will deck it and make sure all of the valves are right. This is a big enough of a PITA job that you really don't want to do it over.

Nice job. You can drop some WD40 (or whatever liquid you like) behind each of the valves to gauge how well they are seating. Taking it to a machine shop is certainly prudent, but its very satisfying to do it yourself. You can measure the surface with a steel ruler or other straight edge to see if it is in spec. If not, then I would get the head surface skimmed.

Most of the valve spring tools you will come across might be for OHV rather than OHC, so be sure they give you the right one!

I just pushed it aside (i.e. towards the firewall). I did some of the bolting unbolting from the timing belt side, some from the exhaust side. It only moves a couple of inches, so you dont have heaps of room.

Thank you guys for all your help, i really appreciate it! I would take it to a proper machine shop and get it looked over by professionals, but i have to do this on the cheap, but i have access to a machine shop if i need one, i just have to do all the work myself.

OH! i was wondering what i should use to degrease the head and all the other oily bits, should i clean off the pistons, thay look gnarly.
