So no luck with any Volvo people. thinking I am going the JB weld route. Why did you (SUPERBRIK) mention emptying the tank and filling it with water? I didnt understand that part of it.

Ok so I went into the top part of the tank in the trunk (pump and some other hatch) and as far as I can tell nothing looks out of place... except for the top hatch. Not sure whats under it. My guess is a fuel level sensor or something like that, but it appears to be brushing against the metal of the car and could be causing a leak.

Take a look at the pictures:

Here is the other piece, it looks like there is discoloration around it... maybe the leak?

Judging by the first picture I had posted on this thread, it appears that the gas is leaking from the top of the tank, which lead me to believe it has to be one of these two... not the filler as the leak appeared to be above that.

fuel level sender

But the pic looks like you have the classic 850 leak from the filler tube to the tank.

The 1/2 clamps do not force the pipe flange into the seal enough and the fill pipe sags in the seal. The fuel can come out the top side. of the filler tub to seal connection.

In your case the fuel level sender does appear to have a leak as well so maybe its both.

Even if you look at the first picture you still think its coming from the filler neck? It looks like, in the picture, that the fuel is coming from way higher up than the filler neck.

What do I need to do to fix the fuel level sender leak?

Yes but fix the fuel level sender first in case that's all it is.

Remove the cover by turning the cover counter clockwise. I use a special tool but a very dull, very large screwdriver held against one of the ribs and tapped gently will turn the cover and not break the plastic. Use a silicone spray lube ( not grease) and it will help it release. Once off, inspect the flat black seal and see if you need a new one or you can use a sealer. Keep inmind that only a few sealers will work as the gas will destroy any type of silicone sealer etc. If you have Hylomar, permatex anerobic gasket maker or permatex motoseal ( for motorcycles) they are the only ones that work. If you don't have them then a new gasket is usually cheaper than a new tube of fuel resistant sealer.
