thanks. I agree and you're most likely right about the belt being stretched allowing a little extra space between the marks.
One other question:
if these engines are auto adjusting as far as timing, as some have said, then why the other marks on the plastic cam sprocket cover? The ones showing degrees before TDC. Are they for a timing light? and if so, why are they there if this is not supposed to be adjustable.
Just for conversation sake at this point.

Also I saw a mark on the crankshaft pulley and a co responding indicator arrow on the block. What would you use that for if not to check the timing?

Just to let you know. My kid up and sold the car yesterday! go figure! Guess I have no more problems.
